President, Pins Out Engineering
Design engineer, applications engineering leader, and industry columnist with more than 40 years in electronics and semiconductors.
Profile
Kevin Parmenter has spent more than four decades on the engineering side of the electronics industry: designing circuits, supporting the engineers who design with them, and running field applications teams for semiconductor and component companies.
He is President of Pins Out Engineering, an electronics consulting firm specializing in technology, marketing, sales, and applications. Until December 2025, Kevin was director of Field Applications Engineering for Taiwan Semiconductor, North America. Before that, he was vice president of applications engineering for the Americas at Excelsys Technologies, now part of Advanced Energy, and director of advanced technical marketing for digital power products at Exar Corporation.
At Freescale Semiconductor, he led global product applications engineering and new product definition for the Analog, Mixed Signal and Power Division in Tempe, Arizona. As senior director of field applications engineering for the Americas at Fairchild Semiconductor, he led the regional FAE team and three regional design centers. He also led an applications engineering team at the start-up Primarion, working on high-speed electro-optical communications and digital power supply semiconductors, and held technical and management roles at ON Semiconductor and Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector. His design engineering background includes medical and military electronics, and he credits much of his early education to outstanding customers and companies, especially Motorola Semiconductor and Analog Devices.
Kevin is a former president and committee member of the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA), and was General Chair of APEC 2009, the IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference. A Silver Quill author, he writes the Kevin’s Korner column for EEWorld Online, contributes monthly to Power Systems Design, and has written for Microwave Journal, How2Power Today, and the ARRL’s QST.
